Since 2015, Turbans 4 Australia has specialised in providing emergency relief for people in need regardless of their race, religion or ethnicity.
This Sikh-led charity organisation assists those experiencing financial hardship, food insecurity, homelessness and unemployment, as well as those impacted by natural disasters.
Each week Turbans 4 Australia distributes free food and grocery hampers at their headquarters in the suburb of Clyde in Western Sydney to those struggling with food insecurity. Turbans 4 Australia also responds quickly in emergency situations, supporting communities affected by bushfires, floods and drought.
In November 2021, Be Kind Sydney launched its inaugural Day of Giving campaign to coincide with World Kindness Day on the 13th. The two-week campaign involved 65 charities. Thanks to our supporters and matched funding from major donors we raised more than $352,000 for their vital, life-changing work.
In November 2022, we held our second Be Kind Sydney campaign. The campaign involved 85 grassroots charities and raised a record-breaking $440,000. Our major donors The Peter Brennan & Michael Lynch Sub Fund and The Snow Foundation provided matched funding vital to the campaign’s success.
The ‘Earn and Learn’ collaboration with fashion brand Ginger & Smart and The Social Outfit was a co-designed program that created education and employment opportunities for refugee women facing poverty. This program provided alternate methods of training and created employment pathways to ensure that refugee women had the greatest chance of success as they settled in Sydney. By working with participant’s traditional and cultural strengths, this program aimed to build-up lasting skills and a resume of paid work experience in Australia. The pilot project helped to further enable the women participating to learn more about Australian workplaces, build English skills and work creatively within a supported environment.
The ‘RISE’ (Reengagement Initiative towards Supportive Education) was a successful muti-year program co-designed by Sydney Community Foundation Gives and Whitelion to assist at-risk young people suspended from, or chronically disengaged from education in Claymore (Campbelltown) – one of Sydney’s poorest and most disadvantaged suburbs according to the SEIFA index.
