Sydney Community Foundation Gives’ purpose is to alleviate poverty, suffering and misfortune of people in need by, without limitation, developing, supporting and providing programs and services to those in need. Sydney Community Foundation Gives is a subsidiary of the Sydney Community Foundation and a Public Benevolent Institution (DGR1).

About

Previously named 'Be Kind Sydney'. The Foundation's PBI subsidiary executed successful matched online fundraising campaigns in 2021 and 2022 to support grassroots charities and community changemakers unprecedently stretched during and following the COVID-19 pandemic. This initiative served to help local giving be most effective — a meaningful way to do good in your own 'hood for those most in need.

The Foundation's focus continues to be on addressing urgent needs through targeted, place-based initiatives, particularly in communities across Western and South Western Sydney. Sydney Community Foundation Gives Ltd enables investment by Private Ancillary Funds (PAFs), Trusts, and Foundations, amplifying our impact in local communities.

The creation of Sydney Community Foundation Gives Ltd was granted by the ATO in recognition of the success of the Sydney Community Foundation's collective impact approach in these regions.

Our Programs

Doorways to the Future is an initiative focused on improving the economic and social outcomes for women and families in the Liverpool community. The program supports local, community-led solutions to the challenges women and girls in Western and South-Western Sydney often face, including some of the most entrenched socioeconomic challenges in the state - marked by lower employment, limited access to resources, and persistent inequities in education, safety, and opportunity. At the heart of this initiative is a commitment to listening. We engage with the Liverpool community to understand its unique strengths, priorities and needs. By centring local voices, we aim to ensure the program is grounded in lived experience and informed by the community it supports.

KWOOP (Keeping Women Out of Prison) is an independent, authoritative Coalition comprised of individuals and organisations including service providers, philanthropic and not-for-profit organisations, universities and women with lived experience of the criminal legal system. KWOOP’s vision is for better outcomes for women and children affected by the criminal legal system.

In November 2021, Be Kind Sydney launched its inaugural Day of Giving campaign to coincide with World Kindness Day on the 13th. The two-week campaign which followed involved 65 charities and thanks to our supporters and matched funding from major donors, we raised more than $352,000 for their vital, life-changing work.

In November 2022, we held our second Be Kind Sydney campaign. The campaign involved 85 grassroots charities and raised a record-breaking $440,000. Our major donors The Peter Brennan & Michael Lynch Sub Fund and The Snow Foundation provided matched funding vital to the campaign’s success.
