Saluting Professor
Behrendt AO

Eualayai/Gamillaroi woman Larissa Behrendt AO is the Laureate Fellow at the Jumbunna Institute at the University of Technology, Sydney

In 2023 we celebrated Professor Larissa Behrendt AO at our annual Saluting Sydney Women event at the Museum of Contemporary Art. In addition to her incredible academic and creative career, Larissa is a former board member of the Sydney Community Foundation and understands the importance for Foundations to actively listen to communities and provide them with the support they need to heal and thrive. Larissa was in conversation with her close friend Philippa McDermott and spoke about her work, the amazing women who have supported her throughout her life and the importance of giving back.

2022

Saluting
Ann Sherry AO

Ann Sherry AO is an influential corporate leader and outstanding community changemaker thanks to her groundbreaking work in women’s rights, disability reform and social justice.

In 2022, after a break due to Covid restrictions, the annual Saluting Sydney Women event was back. In early September 2022, Sydney Women’s Fund gathered a group of powerful women and men to celebrate a true trailblazer – Ann Sherry AO – at the spectacular Sydney Opera House. This was a fitting backdrop to pay tribute to Ann as one of our city’s truly iconic women, who credits her time in Sydney in the mid-90s as giving her the “greatest platform to create the greatest change.”

2019

The Lord Mayor of
Sydney, Clover Moore

The Lord Mayor of Sydney, Clover Moore is one of Australia’s most outstanding community leaders recognised nationally for her leadership on tough social issues. From her first days in elected office in 1980, Clover Moore has been a consistent, caring voice for marginalised people.

In 2019, Women leaders from all walks of life gathered together to salute The Lord Mayor of Sydney, Clover Moore at Sydney Women’s Fund’s annual Saluting Sydney Women. While other Australian political leaders have wavered Sydney’s Lord Mayor has consistently led the call for action against the human impacts of climate change and made the City of Sydney a role model in climate change leadership for other communities. She consistently advocates the need for social justice and equity for the LGBTQ community in Sydney and Australia.
