Sydney Community Foundation is proud to announce a major milestone in our journey to grow giving across the country: The Hon Dr Andrew Leigh MP, Assistant Minister for Productivity, Competition, Charities and Treasury has officially endorsed our new Community Charity as an Item 1 Deductible Gift Recipient (DGR1) under the newly established Community Charity category.
This endorsement is the next step for many Community Foundations across Australia and in the philanthropic sector and opens up exciting possibilities for giving in Australia.
With DGR1 status, Sydney Community Foundation can now:
- Engage a broader base of philanthropic support, including Public Ancillary Funds (PuAFs) and Private Ancillary Funds (PAFs)
- Distribute grants to a wider range of charitable organisations and causes, expanding the reach and impact of our giving community
- Deliver impactful work in the community directly
- Bequests and legacy gifts to be made with greater flexibility

This change is the result of years of sector-wide advocacy and collaboration.
